John Hawkesby is one of the best known personalities in New Zealand, recognised for his highly professional and polished manner.

His broadcasting career reads like a "who's who" of top programmes starting in 1972 when John researched and presented Radio New Zealand's "Reflecting On" programme. This programme achieved an incredible six Mobil Radio Awards for "Excellence in Broadcasting".

In 1986 John moved to Radio Hauraki and read the breakfast news with "Blackie" and the gang., In 1977 he joined TV2 as newsreader and in 1981 presented the top rating TOP HALF programme for TVNZ.

It was no surprise when John was selected to host the popular "IT'S IN THE BAG" with co-host Hillary Timmins, this show and his good humoured professionalism made John a favourite with the New Zealander viewing public.

In 1992 John moved to TV3 as newsreader and in 1995 and 1996 was voted "TV Guide's People's Choice "Best Presenter", and "Best Newsreader.

Monday February 16, 1998 was a black day for many New Zealanders when they learnt that John would no longer be reading the news on TV3. He can still heard however doing the news on the MORE FM radio network at breakfast.

In August 1997 John published "Save The Last Dance For Me", which gave yet a further insight into this most popular personality.

It would be hard to choose a better Master of Ceremonies and he is the first choice of MC at many high profile events including, The Auckland Opera and Christmas in the Park, the Starship Telethon and the Benson and Hedges Fashion Awards with Elle Macpherson.
