Weijun Collins is a remarkable, new Asian, inspirational speaker. From a childhood in China full of despair and sacrifice Weijun weaves her wonderful story full of hope inspiration and belief in the power of the human spirit. Weijun was born into an educated, high ranking Chinese family. In 1955 her Father, along with thousands of other intellectuals was taken to an isolated place to confess their "sins" they had committed by supporting the former Government. Her life changed dramatically! Shunned by friends and teachers her school days were marked with cruelties and humiliations. Her life became a bitter struggle for survival. The 'crime" of her Father eventually rebounded on her family and at age 19 Weijun was sent to a labour camp in the Gobi Desert for 10 years. Weijun was forced to endure sub-zero temperatures with little food and sleeping in a cramped cave at night. Through all of this Weijun held on tenaciously to her dream of a better life. While in the labour camp Weijun defied the authorities and taught herself English with forbidden books and devised a plan to escape. An unhappy marriage produced two precious daughters; a scandalous love affair produced more misery and family disgrace, but Weijun's resilience never faltered. Weijun's story is remarkable - Weijun is a remarkable person. The "cultural revolution" set out to break the spirit of everyone who wanted to be strong but they could never break Weijun
